Our Multi-Sensory Room was made possible by grants from Ronald McDonald House, AbbVie, and JPMorgan Chase.
Our Multi-Sensory room contains both relaxing and stimulating equipment for guests with sensory processing needs. A volunteer or staff member will orient families to the room, which can be accessed with a key 24/7. Patients and family members are welcome to use the room.
The multi-sensory room offers equipment for jumping, rocking, and sliding. The marble panel on the wall provides a tactile and auditory sensory experience, while the marble panel has color-changing capabilities.
The LED bubble tubes provide a vibratory relaxation and visual sensory experience. These tubes have color-changing capabilities. The bubble tubes can also be connected to a super switch, which provides special programming.
Fiber optic lighting and tunnel create a visual and tactile experience. The stargazer projects stars and clouds on the wall to create a calm, relaxing environment. The tunnel is vibroacoustic and can connect to a music source.
Ronald McDonald House Delaware has been officially certified as a Sensory Inclusive Environment by KultureCity. The House is the first venue in Delaware, and the first chapter in the Ronald McDonald House global system to receive this certification. All staff members have been trained on how to recognize guests with sensory needs and how to handle a sensory overload situation. The House showcases signage to indicate its’ inclusive status, and loud and quiet areas within the House. Ronald McDonald House also offers sensory bags (which include noise-canceling headphones, fidget toys, and a feelings meter) for families to use when needed.
Ronald McDonald House Delaware is also featured on KultureCity’s website and app (iPhone/Android) which includes information about the House and a social story so families know what to expect before their visit.
Ronald McDonald House Delaware is proud to provide an inclusive environment to all guests and families!
